Prepare tomorrow's morning in ten minutes

A short evening reset can make breakfast easier without prescribing a perfect morning routine.

Ten minutes is enough to remove one or two decisions from tomorrow. Pick the tasks that suit your household and leave the rest; this is preparation, not a rulebook.

01

Clear one landing place

After dinner, wash or move the dishes from the part of the counter where you make breakfast. Leave a clean, dry patch for the kettle or bowl. If your kitchen is small, choosing that patch matters more than clearing the whole room. Put sharp tools and hot appliances away safely rather than moving them into a child-accessible spot.

02

Set out only shelf-stable items

Choose a mug, plate and napkin and put them where they will be used. Keep perishable food refrigerated until breakfast and follow package storage instructions. Do not leave dairy, cut fruit or cooked grains at room temperature overnight for convenience. If you need a reminder, use a short note on the fridge rather than leaving food out.

03

Check tomorrow's first step

Refill a safe water container if appropriate, or make sure the kettle is ready to fill. Check that your coffee or tea is within reach. Put the reusable filter or brewer where it can dry properly. This is a good moment to notice whether anything needs washing before morning.

04

Stop when the space works

The routine has done its job when breakfast can begin without clearing a surface first. Some evenings you will skip it. On those days, the smallest version is to place a mug by the kettle. A useful habit should absorb real life rather than demand the same ten minutes every night.
